L a ministre des Outre-mer, Annick Girardin, a inauguré l’exposition Escales Outre-mer le 30 novembre au ministère, en présence des médias, de groupes scolaires et de la Réserve naturelle de Saint-Martin, représentée par son directeur, Nicolas Maslach. Celui-ci a pu s’en- tretenir quelques minutes avec la ministre à propos des impacts d’Irma dans la Réserve na- turelle et des actions de reconquête mises en place dans les mois qui ont suivi et ceux à ve- nir. L’exposition, fruit d’un travail collectif dans tout l’outre-mer, a vocation a être itinérante en métropole et en outre-mer pendant plusieurs années. 50 photographes y illustrent pour la 1ère fois la biodiversité des 13 territoires ultra- marins - dont Saint-Martin - qui rassemblent 80 % de la biodiversité française. Au-delà de la découverte de ce patrimoine extraordinaire - faune, flore, espèces endémiques ou men- acées, écosystèmes emblématiques... - Escales Outre-mer met l’accent sur les aires protégées, dont l’enjeu fondamental est le maintien de la biodiversité. L’objectif des photographes et des partenaires : sensibiliser le grand public, y compris scolaire, à l’importance de préserver nos richesses naturelles ultramarines et, plus largement, les écosystèmes de notre planète. 21 Le renforcement de l’intégration régionale / Strengthening Regional Integration O verseas Minister Annick Girardin inaugurat- ed the exhibit, Overseas Locales (Escales Out- re-Mer), on November 30 at the Ministry in Par- is, accompanied by the media, school groups, and the Réserve Naturelle de Saint-Martin, rep- resented by director Nicolas Maslach. He was able to speak with the minister for several min- utes about the impact of Irma on the Réserve Naturelle and the recovery activities put in place in the months after the hurricane and those to follow. The exhibit, fruit of a collective effort throughout the overseas areas, is intended to move around France and Overseas territories for several years. There are 50 photographs that illustrate for the first time the biodiversity of the 13 overseas territories –including Saint Martin– that comprises 80% of French biodiversity. In addition to the discovery of this extraordinary natural heritage –fauna, flora, endemic and en- dangered species– the exhibit puts an accent on protected zones, where the primary issue is how to maintain the biodiversity. The goal of the photographers and the sponsors: to build wider awareness for the general public, includ- ing school children, and share the importance of preserving our natural overseas richness, and on a larger scale, the eco-systems of our entire planet.
