Le suivi sous-marin de la Réserve marine de Saint- Barth, qui devait avoir lieu du 7 au 9 décembre, a été annulé en raison des mauvaises conditions météo. La Réserve de Saint-Martin, un garde de la Réserve de Petite-Terre et le cabinet CREOCEAN étaient venus prêter main-forte à l’Agence terri- toriale de l’environnement de Saint-Barth, dans le cadre du compagnonnage annuel lié au suivi sous-marin des réserves naturelles. Les plongeurs ont tenté, mais sans succès, de dérouler les 150 mètres de ruban gradué sur le transect. Explica- tion : la houle très présente dans les Îles du Nord en fin d’année, contribue à remobiliser la grande quantité de sédiments déplacés par Irma. Cette remise en suspension, responsable d’une impor- tante turbidité de l’eau, marque une restructura- tion progressive des fonds, sous l’effet de la houle et des courants, pour un retour à la normale. The Réserve de Saint-Martin, repre- sentatives of the Réserve de Petite-Terre and of CREOCEAN had come to lend a hand to the Territorial Environmental Agency of Saint Barth, as part of their annual cooperation linked to the underwater study of marine parks. The divers tried, but without success, to unroll 150 meters of graduated ribbon along the transect. Explica- tion: the strong swells present around the North- ern Islands at the end of the year contributed to the movement of a large quantity of sediment displaced by Irma. Suspended in the water again, it caused a lot of turbidity, but also marks a pro- gressive restructuration of the underwater mi- lieu, under the effect of the swells and currents, towards a return to normal. The study has been postponed until February 2018. La situation n’est pas plus brillante du côté du trans- port terrestre, avec trois des quatre véhicules de la Réserve réduits à l’état d’épaves. La Réserve de Saint-Martin se réjouit des excellentes rela- tions qu’elle entretient avec l’Agence territoriale de l’environnement de Saint-Barth, avec qui elle collabore régulièrement ainsi qu’avec les autres partenaires des Antilles françaises, au sein de divers réseaux régionaux : Reef Check, le réseau tortues marines, le réseau de suivi des requins et raies, le sanctuaire Agoa et autres réseaux de protection de l’environnement.
