6 Réserve Naturelle SAINT MARTIN éserve aturelle I I éserve aturelle I I éserve aturelle I I Action CS4 Suivi de l’ichtyofaune (priorité 1) Tom Desfossez, étudiant en BTS gestion et protection de la nature à l’IGPN de Montpellier a accompli du 28 juin au 20 août 2021 un stage à la réserve. Outre sa participation aux missions habituelles de la réserve, il s’est particulièrement consacré au programme Life BIODIV’OM en faveur de la conservation du mérou de Nassau et du mérou géant. Il a prêté main-forte lors de la collecte des post-larves, à leur identification et aux traitements de toutes ces données. Il a mené une enquête auprès des pêcheurs afin de mieux connaître leurs usages, leurs prises et la fréquence à laquelle ils attrapaient des mérous. Il a également élaboré un outil de sensibilisation à la protection des mérous, sous la forme d’une plaquette destinée aux socioprofession- nels : pêcheurs, commerçants, restaurateurs, mais aus- si d’information des visiteurs de notre ile. Étudiant en licence de biologie marine à l’Université de La Rochelle, Matthieu Pujol a spontanément présenté sa candidature pour effectuer un mois de stage à la ré- serve naturelle, sur la base du volontariat. Il a participé à la vie quotidienne de l’équipe et a notamment pris une grande part à l’enquête menée par Tom Desfossez. Deux stagiaires au service du programme Life Matthieu Pujol Action CS4 Study the ichthyofauna (Priority 1) Tom Desfossez, a university student in a two-year pro- gram for the management and protection of nature at the IGPN in Montpellier, completed an internship from June 28 to August 20 at the Réserve Naturelle. In addition to ongoing missions of the Réserve, he was especially inter- ested in the BIODIV’OM Life project that promotes the conservation of the Nassau and Atlantic goliath grouper. He worked hard during the collection of post-larvae, on their identification, and management of the data. He questioned local fishermen in order to better understand their practices, the size of their catch, and how often they caught grouper. He also created an awareness tool for the protection of grouper, in the form of a brochure intended for socio-professionals: fishermen, merchants, and restaurateurs, as well as to provide information for visitors to the island. A marine biology major at the University of La Rochelle, Matthieu Pujol spontaneously presented his candidature for a month-long internship at the Réserve Naturelle, as a volunteer. He participated in the daily operations with the staff, and most notably took part in the inquiry led by Tom Desfossez.
