20 Réserve Naturelle SAINT MARTIN éserve aturelle I I Baleine à bosse et son baleineau - A humpback whale and her calf © Laurent Bouveret Action CS19  Evaluer et suivre les populations de mammifères marins (priorité 1) Le 19 janvier 2021, le comité de pilotage du projet Cari’mam, conduit par le sanctuaire Agoa, a fait le point avec la réserve naturelle sur l’avancement des projets in- scrits au programme pour Saint-Martin. L’association de gestion de la réserve naturelle de Saint-Martin (AGRNSM) a évoqué l’impossibilité de mettre en œuvre la campagne Megara 2020-2021, faute de moyens permettant le pré- financement, dans un contexte difficile lié au Covid 19. Le projet étant financé par l’Union européenne, un appel d’offres a tout de même été lancé, en novembre 2020. Une seule proposition a été reçue en retour, à laquelle il a été impossible de donner suite. La Réserve a toutefois procédé en février 2021 à l’installation d’un hydrophone passif fourni par Agoa dans le cadre du projet CARI’MAM, à une quinzaine de mètres de profondeur, afin d’enreg- istrer les chants des mammifères marins. Ce dispositif enregistre 1 minute toutes les 5 minutes, en continu. Les enregistrements sont récupérés une fois par mois, délai à la fin duquel les piles doivent être remplacées. Ils sont en- suite transmis à des chercheurs de l’Université de Toulon, qui développe une intelligence artificielle capable d’ap- prendre à reconnaitre les sons de la mer, afin de traiter de manière automatisée les heures d’enregistrement acous- tique fournies par les contributeurs de toute la Caraïbe. Le point sur le projet Cari’mam Action CS19  Evaluation and study of marine mammal populations (priority 1) On January 19, 2021, the steering committee for the Cari’mam project, led by the Agoa sanctuary, and La Réserve Naturelle did an update on the advancement of the parts of the project intended for Saint Martin. The management association for La Réserve Naturelle de Saint-Martin (AGRNSM) evoked the impossibility of launching the 2020-2021 Megara campaign, due to lack of prefinancing, due to difficulties caused by Covid 19. As the project is financed by the European Union, a call for tenders went out anyway in November 2020. Only one proposal was received in return, but it was impossible to follow up. However, in February 2020, La Réserve went ahead with the installation of a passive hydrophone sup- plied by Agoa as part of CARI’MAM project. This was placed at a depth of fifteen meters to capture the songs of marine mammals, which are recorded one minute, every five minutes, continuously. The recordings are collected once per month, at which time the batteries need to be replaced. The sounds are transmitted to researchers at the University of Toulon, which has developed artificial in- telligence capable of learning to identify the sounds of the sea, in order to automatically handle the hours and hours of acoustic recordings contributed from all across the Caribbean.
