45 Réserve Naturelle SAINT MARTIN éserve aturelle I I Le 12 mars 2020, la Réserve naturelle a reçu une do- nation d’un montant de près de 3000 euros, léguée par Mary Ruos, l’épouse de Jim Ruos, décédé le 29 décembre 2019 à l’âge de 85 ans dans l’état de Vir- ginie. Biologiste de formation et adepte de la faucon- nerie, Jim Ruos a travaillé pendant 21 ans au sein du U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, tout particulièrement en faveur de la tourterelle, mais aussi des oiseaux migrateurs, des rapaces et notamment du faucon pélerin. Il fut le premier Américain à proposer de fi- nancer les pays favorisant la protection des habitats des oiseaux migrateurs. Il a choisi à la fin des années 80 de fonder avec son épouse la société Caribbean Islands Travel Service et a œuvré avec succès dans le domaine du tourisme, spécialement à Saint-Martin, où il avait de nombreux amis. La Réserve naturelle s’associe à leur peine et remercie la famille de cet ami de l’environnement pour ce beau geste. A biologist by training and adept at falconry, Jim Ruos worked for 21 years at the U.S. Fish and Wild- life Service, primarily interested in turtledoves, but also migratory birds and birds of prey, especially the peregrine falcon. He was the first American to suggest funding countries that promote protection of migratory bird habitats. In the late 80’s, he and his wife decided to create the company Caribbean Islands Travel Service, which met with success in the tourism sector, including in Saint Martin, where he had a lot of friends.
