Suzanne Gonnier, 22 ans, étudiante à l’école nationale supérieure de paysage de Versailles (ENSP), a été accueillie en stage à la Réserve naturelle en juin et juillet 2018. Future pay- sagiste-concepteur, elle a fait le choix de ve- nir à la Réserve naturelle afin d’approcher un acteur de la gestion du territoire, dans l’idée de commencer sa carrière dans un espace protégé. Sa mission a été de proposer un programme de réhabilitation de l’étang des Salines d’Orient, mis à mal par Irma. L’idée aujourd’hui est de concilier régénération et conservation des écosystèmes et découverte par le public. Elle a travaillé sur une zone de vasière, endroit de prédilection des oiseaux nicheurs, et préconise d’une part de retrac- er des canaux dans cette vasière et d’autre part d’en stabiliser les berges par des plan- tations de palétuviers issus d’une pépinière à créer avec le concours des enfants du Col- lège de Quartier d’Orléans, investis dans le programme d’Aire Marine Educative de la Baie du Galion. Ces aménagements vien- dront isoler les zones de nichage et de repos de l’avifaune qui pouvait précédemment être dérangée par des prédateurs terrestres. Ces nouvelles zones de rassemblement pour- ront également permettre le développement d’activités telles que le birdwatching. Ce travail vient alimenter la réflexion quant à la réhabilitation et à la gestion de ce site classé en Réserve naturelle nationale et labélisé Ramsar et Spaw pour la richesse des éco- systèmes qu’il abrite. Maintenir ou améliorer les conditions d’accueil pour les populations d’oiseaux marins nicheurs / To maintain or improve local conditions for nesting bird populations Une stagiaire au service des oiseaux Suzanne Gonnier, a 22 year-old student at the National Superior School for Landscape (ENSP), worked as an intern at the Réserve Naturelle in June and July 2018. A future land- scape architect, she decided to come to the Réserve Naturelle to work with a leader in is- land management with the idea of starting her career in an environmentally protected area. Her task was to present a rehabilitation project for the Salines d’Orient, hit rather hard by Irma. The current thinking is to reconcile regenera- tion and conservation of the eco-systems with use by the public. Gonnier focused on the tidal reservoir, a favorite spot for nesting birds, and her recommendations comprise reconfiguring the canals in this area as well as stabilizing the banks with the planting of mangroves from the nursery created in collaboration with students from the middle school in French Quarter, as part of the Educative Marine Park program for Galion Bay. These improvements will help isolate the nesting and resting zones for the avifauna, which previously could be disturbed by terrestrial predators. These new gathering places could also allow for the development of activities such as bird watching. This work adds to the thought already given to the reha- bilitation and management of this site, which is protected as part of the Réserve Naturelle Nationale with Ramsar and SPAW labels, for the richness of the eco-systems it houses.
