Un an après sa première mission dans les eaux de Saint-Martin, Fanny Kerninon était en mai dernier de retour sur notre île. Avec les agents de la Réserve, elle a plongé sur quatre stations d’herbiers : à Grand- Case, au Rocher Créole, au Galion et à Tintamare. En thèse à l’université de Bretagne occidentale et en collaboration avec l’IFRECOR pour qui elle co- ordonne l’observatoire des herbiers de l’Outre-mer français, la jeune femme plonge sur les fonds marins tropicaux du monde entier, de la Caraïbe à l’Océan Indien. Elle a pour objectif de produire une boîte à outils “suivi des herbiers” et des indicateurs qui per- mettront aux gestionnaires de suivre l’état de santé de “leurs” herbiers, très différents les uns des autres. L’enjeu pour Fanny est ainsi de développer des out- ils standards communs utilisables par tous, sur tous les types d’herbiers. Cette scientifique a représenté l’Outre-mer français à l’occasion de la World Sea- grass Conference, du 11 au 17 juin 2018 à Singapour. 14 A «Tool Kit» For The Study Of Plant Beds Une boîte à outils en faveur des herbiers One year after her first mission in the wa- ters of Saint Martin, Fanny Kerninon re- turned to the island last May. Working with the Réserve, this scientist/diver vis- ited four plant bed stations: Grand-Case, Rocher Créole, Galion, and Tintamare. Working on her thesis at the University of Western Brittany, and in collaboration with IFRECOR, for which she coordinates the observation of underwater plant beds for Overseas France, this young woman dives into tropical waters the world over, from the Caribbean Sea to the Indian Ocean. Her goal is to produce a “tool box” for the study of plant beds and the indicators that allow managers to follow the health status of “their” plant beds, which are very different one from the next. The challenge for Fanny is to develop a set of standard tools that can be used to study all types of underwater plant beds. She also represented Overseas France at the World Seagrass Conference, June 11- 17, 2018 in Singapore.
